Julie offered the following two workshops at the Arts Center last fall. Participants were enthusiastic, and she’s delighted to offer them again this February and April. Register as soon as possible so that you’ll be guaranteed a spot.

Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy

BLOCK BUSTING: HOW TO BREAK THROUGH THE BARRIERS THAT KEEP YOU FROM WRITING

Creative blocks afflict almost every writer sooner or later. If you’ve ever found yourself paralyzed, staring at an empty piece of paper or a blank computer screen, you know the feelings of frustration and even downright panic that can keep you from writing. In this workshop we’ll explore the underlying feelings behind personal blocks. Whether you’re a beginning writer or a seasoned professional, you’ll learn a variety of ways to overcome the barriers that keep you from reaching your fullest potential as a writer. We’ll use creative visualization, writing and art exercises, and we’ll discuss successful writers’ tips and techniques for overcoming creative blocks.

Four Saturday afternoons, 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm, beginning April 7

Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy

Cost: $120 for Arts Center members, $140 for non-members

THE ALCHEMY OF CREATIVE WRITING

This series builds on topics covered in Julie’s BLOCK BUSTING workshop, but newcomers are also welcome. Through creative visualization, writing and art, you’ll learn ways to dig deep into the sources of your creative imagination to bring forth gems you can use in your writing. You’ll also learn ways of working with your dreams for insight and inspiration. Whether you’re drawn to poetry or prose, fiction or nonfiction, you’ll identify and develop writing projects to pursue in the future. All levels of experience welcome. Some materials supplied, but you may wish to bring a journal and your favorite writing instruments.

NOTE: To register for courses at the Arts Center, please visit their website at www.artscenteronline.org. Space is limited, and workshops may be cancelled if not enough people enroll, so don’t delay! If you have any questions or concerns, email Julie at julielomoe@gmail.com.

RADIO PROGRAMS AT WEXT-FM!

Julie plays tracks and reminisces about favorite artists she heard live in the 1960’s and early 1970’s

Monday nights at 11:00 pm, February 26 and March 5

Late last year, Julie taped programs celebrating the 1960’s and 1970’s as she experienced them living as an artist in New York City. A devoted jazz fan, she starts with a Miles Davis track, then segues to the Beatles, who stole her heart and led to her obsession with rock and roll. She tells how a Manhattan DJ helped smuggle her paintings into the Beatles’ suite at the Warwick Hotel, how Jimi Hendrix bought her a screwdriver, and how she experienced the Woodstock Festival.

Station manager Chris Wienk helped Julie record the personal narrative, then edited everything into two shows, which will air as part of the MY EXIT series featuring local DJs. Don’t miss the premiere broadcasts!

WEXT-FM is a service of the public TV and radio stations at WMHT. It features roots and rock music. You can find it at 97.7, or stream it from the station’s website.
