I’ll be facilitating two workshops at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy this November. There’s still time to register, and if you do, or if you get a friend to register, I’ve got a special prize for you. Read on to learn what you’ll win. But first, here are the workshop descriptions.
BLOCK BUSTING: HOW TO BREAK THROUGH THE BARRIERS
THAT KEEP YOU FROM WRITING
Saturday, November 4, from 1:15pm to 3:15pm
Creative blocks afflict almost every writer sooner or later. If you’ve ever found yourself paralyzed, staring at an empty piece of paper or a blank computer screen, you know the feelings of frustration and even downright panic that can keep you from writing. In this workshop, we’ll explore the underlying feelings behind personal blocks. Whether you’re a beginning writer or a seasoned professional, you’ll learn a variety of ways to overcome the barriers that keep you from reaching your fullest potential as a writer. We’ll use creative visualization, writing and art exercises, and we’ll discuss the latest scientific findings and successful writers’ tips and techniques for overcoming creative blocks.

THE ALCHEMY OF CREATIVE WRITING
Four Tuesday evenings, November 14, 21, 28, and December 5, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm
This series builds on topics covered in my BLOCK BUSTING workshop, but newcomers are also welcome. Through creative

visualization, writing and art, you’ll learn ways to dig deep into the sources of your creative imagination to bring forth gems you can use in your writing. You’ll also learn ways of working with your dreams for insight and inspiration. Whether you’re drawn to poetry or prose, fiction or nonfiction, you’ll identify and develop writing projects to pursue in the future. All levels of experience welcome. Some materials supplied, but you may wish to bring a journal and your favorite writing instruments.
A BIT ABOUT ME
Julie has facilitated workshops on creativity, dream work, and women’s issues at many venues, including Omega Institute, the Unison Learning Center in New Paltz, and colleges including Hudson Valley Community College and Ulster County Community College. As an adjunct instructor, she taught courses in art therapy and art history at SUNY-New Paltz, Marist College, and Dutchess Community College.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Barnard College, Julie received an MFA from Columbia University and an MA in Art Therapy from New York University. She lived in SoHo for many years, exhibiting at the Museum of Modern Art, The Brooklyn Museum, the 1969 Woodstock Festival, and many Manhattan galleries.
Last year I gave workshops on block busting for the Hudson Valley Writers Guild and the Capital Region chapter of the Romance Writers of America, and they went over so well that I was inspired to expand on them at the Arts Center. Facilitating workshops is a skill I’d put on the back burner for a couple of decades, but I enjoy it immensely. And so, it seems, do my workshop participants.
WIN A PERSONALLY AUTOGRAPHED NOVEL OF YOUR CHOICE
And now about those prizes: I’m offering a free autographed copy of one of my three suspense novels to anyone who registers for either workshop, as well as to anyone who gets a friend to register. If you sign up and bring a friend, you’ll be entitled to two novels. Call it a bribe if you want, but I’m looking forward to a long-term working relationship with the Art Center, and I want to get off to a smashing start with lots of people registered. This is a one-time offer, and there are only a few spots left, so don’t delay!
To sign up for the workshops, please go directly to the Art Center’s website at www.artscenteronline.org. If you have any questions, please leave them as comments here, or you can email me at julielomoe@gmail.com.
