I’m about to reach a milestone on this blog – 50,000 hits! My stat meter when I logged on this morning at 8:58 a.m. stood at 48,888, so based on my current number of visits, over 300 per day, I expect to hit 50,000 sometime today! I love all those eights – that’s the number of great riches, according to the extensive numerological knowledge I picked up in a Cosmo article years ago.
To celebrate, I decided to give away a copy of MOOD SWING: THE BIPOLAR MURDERS or ELDERCIDE – your choice – to the person who leaves a comment closest to the time my blog meter hits 50,000. A few guidelines:
- This will be the comment I find on my dashboard most closely following the time I reach the 50,000 figure.
- Your comment can be on any blog post – scroll down or check the categories for subjects that interest you. On my dashboard, the comments come up in order received, most recent first, rather than by subject, so it won’t matter whicih post you choose.
- Comments must be at least a couple of sentences long and relevant to my blog – not just “Hi, I’m here! Did I win?” or the equivalent.
- If I can’t figure out which comment comes closest to the 50,000th hit, I’ll choose the winner by quality, content, and/or personal whim.
I’ll post the results as soon as I have a winner. Thanks, and best of luck!

Hi Julie, I am astonished you get as many as 300 hits a day! That is terrific! What a clever idea to get people to comment by offering a prize when you reach a certain number of hits. I do enjoy reading your blogs. If I win the book, I am going to give it to a friend since I already have a copy. I love the art work on the covers of your books. Keep up the good work. BTW. I am soon going on a cruise and I may take your books with me to read then. That will be fun. Betsy

Hi Julie, I just read that you have 15 hits or maybe it was 95 hits to go to reach your goal of 50,000 hits. I’m trying again to win that book but this time I had a devil of a time trying to find the place I could comment. I may even now be commenting on my own comment. Bill is playing piano and it is a wonderful background to reading your blog. Please let me know who is the winner. I do plan to take you books with me to read while flying to Miami and back and/or on the Caribbean cruise with my daughter. Betsy

Wow, what was I thinking? I’ve now reached 49,114 hits, but that means I’ve got another 886 to go before I reach 50,000. There was a little matter of a hundreth versus a tenth or some such. I was always phobic about math, and this just reinforces my phobia!
The contest continues, but realistically, it will probably be the middle of next week before I can announce a winner. Oh well . . . Please keep leaving comments anyway.

Hi Julie,
Back to math 101 for you! No that would be a college or high school math class. Let’s put you back in elementary school where you learn to subtract! Just teasing you. You have so many other talents that we can forgive your lack of math expertise!
julielomoe says
Actually, believe it or not, I won a math award in high school. I was an Ivy League Phi Beta Kappa but did manage to avoid math throughout college. But math anxiety is the subject of my next post!
I’m surprised no one else picked up on the error, since it’s obvious if you dissect my first paragraph above. Guess that means people trust me! When it comes to math, though, maybe you shouldn’t.

I just heard about your books and your site. Both books sound good and I know I would enjoy them! I love mysteries. I also subscribed to your blog. I don’t want to miss your posts!

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE: Just 466 hits to go before I declare a winner!
NEW RULE: People who already own one or both of my books are ineligible. I treasure my readers, but my goal here is to reach out to folks who aren’t familiar with my books.
I’ve got a new post ready to go on math anxiety, but I’ll be offline for awhile – my husband is going to give my computer some more memory and update the virus protection. Thank goodness I’ve got a live-in techie, because that stuff scares me even more than math.

Aw shucks! That puts me out of the running to win your contest. If I won the book, I was going to give it to a friend which would broaden your readership. Oh, well. You make the rules and that is fine. So this is another hit on your site to move you toward 50,000.
